In the summer of 2021, Cancer Kids First had the privilege of bringing hope and essential supplies to children with cancer in Colombia. Our team was able to meet patients face to face, strictly following COVID-19 safety guidelines, and deliver resources that made a meaningful difference in their daily lives. This effort was made possible thanks to our dedicated CKF ambassador, Valentina, who coordinated drop-offs at Hospital Universitario San Jorge de Pereira and Hospital Niño Jesús.
This experience was both humbling and eye-opening. Many families in Colombia struggle to meet basic needs such as food, hygiene items, and medications, making it difficult to provide toys, books, or comfort items for their children. For families already navigating the challenges of childhood cancer, financial hardship adds another overwhelming layer of stress. Compounding this reality, many of the children we served had also lost one or both parents due to poverty, drug-related issues, or other difficult circumstances, underscoring the urgent need for support in this region.
During this trip, CKF was able to provide countless face masks, shampoo, wipes, pain medication, toys, and books. While these items may seem small, they brought both relief and joy to children who deserve care, dignity, and encouragement as they fight their battles. This project remains one of our most impactful milestones, reminding us why our mission extends beyond borders and why Colombia holds a special place in our hearts.
